Keynote Symptoms
Thick milky-white coated tongue is the hallmark. Gastric complaints from overeating or bathing in cold water. Cross, sulky children who do not want to be touched or looked at. Horny growths, callosities, and crusty nostrils. Alternating conditions.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Sulky, irritable, cross; does not want to be touched or looked at. Sentimental in moonlight. Loathing of life. Angry at every little attention. Children cannot bear to be touched or washed. Peevish, whining.
General Symptoms
Gastric complaints from overeating, sour wines, vinegar, acidic foods. Worse from cold bathing, heat of sun, hot weather. Loss of appetite, alternating with canine hunger. Tendency to grow fat. Thickening and hardening of skin.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Headache from deranged stomach, bathing, alcoholic drinks, suppressed eruptions. Itching of head.
Eyes
Sore, cracked, crusty corners. Chronic blepharitis.
Nose
Nostrils chapped and crusty. Stoppage of nose.
Mouth
Tongue coated thick white as if whitewashed. Toothache worse at night, worse from cold water. Bleeding gums.
Stomach
Desire for acids, pickles, sour things. Nausea, vomiting, eructations tasting of ingesta. Constant belching. Stomach weak, digestion easily disordered. Loathing food.
Abdomen
Distended. Flatulence. Diarrhea alternating with constipation.
Rectum
Diarrhea from sour wines, cold bathing, overeating. Mucous piles, continuous mucous discharge. Hard lumpy stool.
Skin
Thick, hard callosities. Horny warts. Crusty eruptions. Impetigo. Eczema with gastric derangements. Urticaria. Corns and bunions that are very tender.
Extremities
Horny excrescences under nails. Nails brittle, grow out of shape. Arthritic pain in fingers.

Comparative Materia Medica
Pulsatilla also has gastric symptoms from rich food but is mild and weeping rather than sulky. Ipecacuanha has persistent nausea but a clean tongue. Nux vomica is also a gastric remedy but more driven and chilly.
