Keynote Symptoms
Sudden violent onset. Burning heat, bright redness, throbbing. Dilated pupils, hot red skin, throbbing carotids. High fever without thirst. Delirium with wild, violent hallucinations. Right-sided complaints. Sensitivity to light, noise, touch, jarring.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Violent delirium: biting, striking, spitting. Hallucinations — sees ghosts, animals, frightful faces. Desire to escape. Acuteness of all senses. Starting, jumping from sleep. Moaning, groaning in sleep. Fear of imaginary things, dogs. Fury alternating with calmness.
General Symptoms
Hot, red, throbbing. Sudden onset and sudden departure. Right-sided or right-to-left. Worse from touch, jar, noise, draught, afternoon (3 PM), lying down, after haircut. Better from semi-erect position, light covering, bending backward.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Throbbing, hammering headache, worse from light, noise, jar, lying down, afternoon. Better from pressure, semi-erect position. Meningitis, encephalitis. Head hot, extremities cold.
Eyes
Dilated pupils. Staring, brilliant, protruding. Photophobia. Conjunctiva red. Throbbing deep in eyes.
Ears
Tearing pain in middle and external ear. Child cries out in sleep with earache. Hematoma of ear. Autophony.
Face
Flushed, hot, red, swollen. Facial neuralgia with twitching. Erysipelas, smooth and shining.
Throat
Dry, red, raw, glazed. Tonsils enlarged, especially right. Constant desire to swallow. Spasm on swallowing liquids. Strawberry tongue.
Stomach
Thirstless during fever. Aversion to meat, acids, milk, beer. Spasmodic hiccough. Nausea and vomiting.
Abdomen
Distended, hot, tender. Transverse colon protrudes like a pad. Colic, clutching, gripping. Peritonitis.
Female Genitalia
Menses increased, bright red, too early, too profuse, hot. Mastitis with red streaks radiating. Bearing-down as if contents would protrude.
Respiratory
Dry, barking, tickling cough, worse at night. Larynx very painful. Moaning at each breath. High-pitched cough.
Skin
Hot, dry, burning, scarlet red. Scarlatina-like eruptions. Erysipelas, smooth and shining. Boils. Acne rosacea.
Sleep & Dreams
Restless, crying out, grinding teeth. Starts from sleep. Moaning, twitching during sleep.
Fever / Chill / Perspiration
High fever, dry burning heat. No thirst. Burning heat alternating with chills. Head hot, extremities cold. Perspiration on covered parts only.

Constitutional Type
Plethoric, robust, vital individuals. Children and women especially. Fair complexion, blue eyes. Intellectual, lively when well.

Comparative Materia Medica
Aconitum also has sudden onset but with more fear and restlessness, less delirium. Stramonium has more violent delirium with desire for light and company. Apis has redness and swelling but is thirstless and better from cold.
Safety Information
Camphor, Coffea, Hepar sulph, Hyoscyamus, Mercurius, Opium, Pulsatilla. Also coffee and vinegar.
Deadly nightshade is extremely toxic, containing tropane alkaloids (atropine, scopolamine, hyoscyamine). Causes delirium, hallucinations, tachycardia, seizures, coma, death. Use only potentised forms.
