Keynote Symptoms
Intense aching in bones as if broken or dislocated. Influenza with deep bone pains. Thirst for cold water, vomits bile or water as soon as it warms in the stomach. Periodicity — every third or seventh day. Malarial fevers. Restlessness, moaning from pain.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Restless, moaning from pain. Knows what is wanted but cannot express it. Depression.
General Symptoms
Deep bone pains, as if bones were broken. Worse from periodicity (7-9 AM), motion, cold air. Better from conversation, getting on hands and knees, vomiting bile, sweating.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Throbbing headache. Pain in occiput with soreness internally. Periodic headache every third or seventh day.
Eyes
Aching, sore. Eyeballs sore as if pressed outward.
Mouth
Bitter taste. Tongue coated yellow.
Stomach
Thirst for cold water long before chill. Vomiting of bile as soon as water warms in stomach. Hiccough.
Chest
Soreness, aching. Loose cough, must support chest. Cannot lie on left side.
Respiratory
Cough with soreness in chest. Hoarseness, coryza. Rough, scraping.
Back
Aching, bruised. Beaten sensation as if back would break.
Extremities
Intense aching in bones of limbs. Soreness, broken feeling. Calves feel as if beaten. Aching in every bone. Stiffness and general soreness.
Fever / Chill / Perspiration
Chill begins 7-9 AM, preceded by thirst. Vomiting of bile between chill and heat. Bone pains, aching, moaning. Periodical fevers.

Constitutional Type
Not strongly constitutional. Used primarily as an acute remedy for influenza and malarial fevers.

Comparative Materia Medica
Bryonia has aching and wants to lie still but has more dryness and irritability. Gelsemium has influenza but more heaviness, drowsiness, and trembling. Rhus tox has aching but is restless and better from motion.
Safety Information
Arsenicum album, Natrum muriaticum, Sepia.
Boneset has low toxicity but in large doses can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea due to pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Safe in all potentised forms.
