Prepared from a mixture of powdered oyster shell (calcium carbonate) and flowers of sulphur, heated to white heat, then triturated.

Keynote Symptoms
Extreme sensitivity to pain, cold, and touch. Sensation of splinter, stick, or fishbone in the throat, skin, etc. Suppuration tendency — low potency promotes pus formation, high potency aborts it. Profuse sour-smelling perspiration. Chilly, worse from least draft or uncovering. Irritable, hasty, violent from pain.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Extremely irritable, violent from pain. Hasty speech. Dissatisfied with everything. Desire to kill, set things on fire. Anger from trifles. Hypersensitive to all impressions. Nothing pleases.
General Symptoms
Extremely chilly, worse from cold, draft, uncovering. Suppuration of all tissues. Sour-smelling discharges. Worse from dry cold wind, touch, night, lying on painful side. Better from warmth, wrapping up, damp weather, after eating.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Boring pain in right temple. Scalp sensitive, sore. Moist offensive eruptions. Cold sweat on head.
Ears
Deafness, otorrhoea offensive. Mastoiditis. Whizzing and throbbing. Perforated tympanum.
Nose
Sneezing from cold air. Every cold draft causes sneezing. Smell of old cheese.
Throat
Sensation of splinter or fishbone. Quinsy. Suppurative tonsillitis. Hawking of mucus. Pain extends to ear on swallowing.
Stomach
Craving for vinegar, sour, strong-tasting food. Aversion to fatty food. Heaviness after eating.
Respiratory
Croupy cough, choking. Loose rattling cough worse in cold air. Must be well covered. Asthma worse from cold air.
Skin
Unhealthy — every little injury suppurates. Abscesses, boils, felons. Ulcers sensitive to touch. Acne. Old sores that refuse to heal. Offensive perspiration.
Extremities
Felons, whitlows. Nails brittle. Joint pains.

Constitutional Type
Oversensitive, chilly, irritable individuals. Fair skin, sluggish. Tendency to suppuration. Overreact to pain.
Clinical Indications
Abscesses, boils, tonsillitis (quinsy), croup, suppurative otitis, acne, felons, slow-healing wounds, sinusitis
Comparative Materia Medica
Silicea also promotes suppuration but is less sensitive and more yielding in temperament. Mercurius has suppuration with offensive discharges but sweats more and is worse from both heat and cold. Calcarea sulphurica continues where Hepar left off — when pus has formed and is discharging.
Safety Information
Acetic acid, Belladonna, Chamomilla, Silicea. Also vinegar.
Calcium sulphide is mildly caustic in crude form. Potentised forms are safe.
