Keynote Symptoms
Tough, stringy, ropy, sticky mucous discharges that adhere to the parts and can be drawn out in long strings. Pain in small spots that can be covered with the tip of one finger. Wandering pains that shift quickly. Round deep ulcers with punched-out edges as if made with a cork borer. Complaints at a definite time.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Indifferent, dull. Disinclination to mental or physical work. Ill-humored on waking. Aversion to motion. Listless.
General Symptoms
Thick, stringy, ropy discharges from all mucous membranes. Worse from cold, damp, morning (2-3 AM), undressing, spring, autumn, beer, hot weather. Better from heat, motion, pressure.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Frontal headache, especially over one eye. Preceded by blurred vision. Headache at regular times.
Eyes
Ropy, stringy discharge. Ulcers on cornea.
Nose
Thick, tough, ropy discharge. Plugs and clinkers in the nose. Pressure at root of nose. Perforation of septum. Chronic sinusitis. Fetid smell.
Throat
Dry, rough. Uvula oedematous, relaxed. Tough mucus from fauces. Adherent crusts. Pain extends to ear.
Stomach
Cannot digest meat. Desire for beer but it disagrees. Nausea and vomiting of stringy mucus. Round ulcer of stomach.
Abdomen
Cutting, stitching. Chronic diarrhea, watery, with tenesmus.
Respiratory
Croupy, metallic cough. Expectoration tough, stringy, yellow. Chronic bronchitis. Voice hoarse. Pain at bifurcation of trachea.
Skin
Deep ulcers with punched-out edges. Papular eruptions. Acne.
Extremities
Wandering pains in limbs. Sciatica left side, better from motion and heat. Pain in small spots.
Back
Pain in coccyx, worse sitting, worse rising from seat.

Comparative Materia Medica
Pulsatilla has thick bland discharge but changeable and yellow-green without stringiness. Hydrastis has thick yellow discharge but less ropy. Mercurius has catarrh but more salivation, sweating, and sensitivity to temperature changes.
