Keynote Symptoms
Right-sided tonsillitis — the primary indication. Right tonsil swollen with yellow coating or exudate. Sore throat starting on right side. Hawking of cheesy, offensive lumps from tonsils. Cervical glands swollen, right side. Tip and edges of tongue coated.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Similar to Mercurius sol but milder.
General Symptoms
Right-sided throat affections. Worse from right side, empty swallowing, damp, evening. Better from cold drinks.
Physical Symptoms
Throat
Right tonsil primarily affected — swollen, red, with yellow coating. Sore throat beginning right side. Hawking of offensive cheesy lumps. Glands of right neck swollen. Worse from empty swallowing.
Mouth
Tongue coated yellow at base, or with tip and edges coated. Metallic taste. Salivation.
Ears
Right ear affected. Blocked eustachian tube.

Comparative Materia Medica
Mercurius iodatus ruber (red iodide) is the LEFT-sided version. Lycopodium has right-sided sore throat but goes right to left. Belladonna has right-sided throat but more sudden, hot, and throbbing. Phytolacca has tonsillitis but with dark redness and pain radiating to ears.

Hepar sulphuris.
Mercury compounds are toxic. Mercurous iodide is less toxic than mercuric compounds but still hazardous. Use only potentised forms.
