Left-sided remedy par excellence. Violent stitching, stabbing neuralgic pains — especially in and around the left eye, temple, extending through the head. Pains worse from motion, touch, noise, jar. Heart palpitation violent, visible through clothing, worse from bending forward. Afraid of sharp, pointed things.

General Symptoms
Left-sided complaints. Stitching, stabbing pains. Worse from motion, touch, noise, jar, stooping, cold damp weather, turning the eyes. Better from lying on right side with head elevated, steady pressure, dry weather, sunset.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Violent neuralgic headache, especially left-sided. Pain begins at occiput, spreads over head, settles over left eye. Stitching pain through eye. As if a band around head. Pain comes and goes with the sun — begins at sunrise, peaks at noon, subsides at sunset.
Eyes
Pain in and around eyes, pressing, stabbing. Worse turning eyes. Feels too large for orbits. Ciliary neuralgia, left side.
Face
Prosopalgia — left-sided neuralgic pain. Tearing, stitching. Pale, puffy, distorted from pain.
Mouth
Foul odor from mouth. Toothache from cold water.
Stomach
Nausea with pain. Faint, sinking feeling.
Chest
Violent palpitation visible through clothing. Stitching pain in heart region, worse from motion, bending forward. Purring sensation in heart. Pericarditis. Angina pectoris — radiating to left arm.
Respiratory
Suffocative attacks. Dyspnoea. Must lie on right side with head elevated.
Back
Stiffness and pain in neck and shoulders. Sensitive to touch.

Comparative Materia Medica
Kalmia has similar heart symptoms but right-sided and radiating downward. Cactus has band-like constriction of heart. Aconitum has palpitation with fear but in acute onset. Paris quadrifolia has left eye pain with thread-like sensation.
