Overview

Radiation therapy causes tissue damage and fatigue. Herbal and nutritional support can aid recovery. Some herbs caution during active radiation.

Common Symptoms

Fatigue, skin changes (redness, burning, peeling), tissue damage in radiated area, specific symptoms by area (dry mouth for head/neck, etc.), long-term effects.

When to Seek Medical Care

Severe skin reactions, signs of infection, persistent symptoms beyond expected recovery need oncology follow-up.

General Self-Care Basics

Gentle skin care, avoid sun on radiated area, cool loose clothing, adequate nutrition and calories, hydration, gentle exercise as tolerated.

Herbal Support Options

Calendula cream topically has research for radiation burns. Aloe Vera. Honey (Manuka) for healing. Internally: Turmeric, Green Tea, Astragalus for recovery. Reishi mushroom. CAUTION: some antioxidants during active radiation may reduce efficacy — consult team.
