Chemistry
Primary Constituents
2-methylbutyl 2-methylpropanoate and other esters (20-40%), beta-pinene (5-10%), myrcene (3-8%), chamazulene (1-8% variable), sabinene, sesquiterpenes per supplier GC/MS
Emotional & Psychological
Cape Chamomile is exquisitely calming for anxiety, nervous tension, irritability and emotional hypersensitivity. Gentler and less sedating than Roman chamomile, it soothes frayed nerves without heaviness and supports emotional resilience in sensitive individuals, children and those overwhelmed by life transitions. It is particularly valuable for anger, frustration and sleep disturbance driven by unresolved emotional tension.
Physical Therapeutic Uses
Cape Chamomile is anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic, easing muscular tension, menstrual cramping, tension headaches and digestive spasms. Its ester-rich profile makes it outstanding for sensitive, reactive, inflamed or eczema-prone skin. It supports sleep, eases nervous-origin digestive complaints and is regenerative for damaged skin, often preferred over Roman chamomile for its lighter therapeutic character.
