Cold-pressed/expressed lime is strongly phototoxic due to high furanocoumarin content. Maximum 0.7% for leave-on skin products. Steam-distilled lime is NOT phototoxic. Avoid UV for 12-18 hours after topical application of expressed oil.

Contraindications

Expressed lime: avoid UV for 12-18 hours after application. Oxidized oil causes skin sensitization.

Drug Interactions

May increase photosensitivity when combined with photosensitizing medications.
